Hello my name is Renee Barnes and I am excited to be a kindergarten teacher this year. I look foward to getting to know you and your family. I went to UNC where I recieved my undergraduate degree in Education. I did my student teaching at Bergen Meadow and have worked as a para and a sub at Bergen Meadow. I have also worked in multi-age reading support programs and early childhood centers. I thrive on creating new ways to reach children and helping them develop academics as well as a positive self image. When I am not thinking about school, I enjoy reading, hiking, and baseball games. This year I hope to hike the Colorado Trail!

I am beginning my 18th year at Bergen Meadow and have taught for over 27 years in Arizona and Colorado. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in Home Economics Education, and then returned to school after four years of teaching high school to get certified in Elementary Education. I have also taught fifth and second grades, and this will be my thirteenth year teaching kindergarten here at Bergen Meadow. I also cherish the 11 years I was a stay-at-home mom!

I have been married for 39 years to my husband who is a retired pilot. We have three grown daughters, a son-in-law, and two granddaughters (6 and 9 years old.) We moved to Colorado in 1999 from Tucson, Arizona where I had lived for forty years. My family lived in Evergreen for nine years, and now we live in Golden.

My hobbies include gardening, reading, quilting, history, Tai Chi and Aqua Ai Chi.
I love to create new activities to make learning fun as well as build foundational skills. I love teaching kindergarten because I can sing every day and share my love of reading through wonderful picture books. I also love teaching children to think critically in math, science and social studies. I have a knack for identifying student learning styles (perhaps because I am dyslexic myself) and providing them many opportunities and support for success. Five years ago I completed district ESL (ELL) certification through Regis. A love of learning is a passion I hope to pass on to each of my students so they will develop a thirst for life-long learning.

This is my 33rd year of teaching and my 29th year at the Bergens. I have an undergraduate degree from CSU and a master of education degree from CU. My husband, Pete, and I live in Evergreen with our three dogs. Together we have 4 children, who are all Jeffco graduates, and one adorable grandson. Pete and I love hiking, biking, golfing, paddle boarding, snowshoeing and skiing. We love to be outside enjoying this beautiful place where we live. Teaching is a joy for me. I love the energy and enthusiasm of the classroom. Watching my students learn and grow is what motivates me. I believe in developing the “whole” child, encouraging and guiding their academic, physical, emotional and social being. Creating a classroom environment that fosters a love of learning is my teaching philosophy.

Hello! My name is Kim Silvestri and I’m so looking forward to working with your child this year! I’ve lived in the Evergreen area for over 20 years, so we’ve probably passed each other several times at the grocery stores and lake concerts. However, I’m sure I’ll be a new acquaintance to many, so I’ll tell you a little about myself. I got my undergraduate degree from UNM in Germany, but found along the way that my heart was in teaching. What a great profession! This marks my 11th year teaching (3 years at first grade and 8 at kindergarten). I also completed my master’s degree in elementary reading and literacy. I view every child coming into my room as a truly unique individual with so many strengths and gifts. I am privileged to work with each one of them.

When I’m not teaching, I can be found hanging out with my husband, John, and my two kids, Sean (15) and Jason (11). We love hiking, fishing, camping, mountain biking, skiing, and just about every other Colorado pursuit. If you have any secret fishing spots or campgrounds you’d like to share, I’d love to hear about them!
